The 3-acre steeply terraced vineyard is located in the Diamond Mountain District in Calistoga, CA. Exposed to direct sunlight through part of the day, cooling off with some shade in the early afternoon.

A terraced landscape combines agricultural production, soil conservation, the transmission of knowledge and the preservation of a unique aesthetic value.

Diamond Mountain district got its name from the pieces of shiny volcanic glass in the soil, which reflected like diamonds amongst the dirt. The soil of this AVA is mainly volcanic ash with a fine-grained, but gritty texture. This region sits at a high elevation which means it gets more direct sunlight throughout the vineyard, cools off at night, and sees less fog than some of the other areas in Napa Valley. Grapes generally respond better to a tougher environment with a little bit of stress and good drainage. Having a terraced vineyard with its rocky, sun-soaked slopes forces the vines to form strong root systems which leads to riper and more concentrated fruit with more mineral content. Wines from terraced vineyard are well balanced when it comes to sugars and acidity.
